Over 20 years ago I drove taxi at nights in Austin, Texas with another “born again” Christian owner. He used to an addict but now was saved.  He insisted that our political and religious leaders were being corrupted by Secular Humanism with their moral relativism.

    I brought up the topic of Oliver North – a self professed “born again” Christian – who lied to Congress about selling taxpayer funded arms to Iran and moved crack to inner cities to fund terrorism in Nicaragua.  He stated that liberals in Congress made Oliver lie and resort to moving drugs because they cut off funding to the terrorists. He patiently explained to me that as long as we faced a totally immoral and ruthless enemy, lying, running drugs and funding terrorism were necessary – until such time that Jesus returned and set up his kingdom.

    Flash forward to today when I confront local ministers our police and schools lying to kids about drugs by refusing to mention total lack of actual measurable standards in drug policy. They changed the subject to drug use [abuser tactic], totally ignored the lying, and declared that I was ignorant of the “realities” of drug use. They contended that lying to advance a political position was just politics and they agreed with the goals of police and schools. I reached an inescapable conclusion: the owner was dead on about moral relativism corrupting our political and religious leaders.
